Why is freakshow banned in 43 countries

Sign in to vote. In a side-show circus owned by Lon Christopher Adamson , the greatest attractions are the deformed people that are bonded with Lon as family.

When a group of five outsiders join the circus to work in security, they actually are criminals that intend to steal one week ticket sales.

However, the greedy and sexy slut Lucy Rebekah Kochan finds that Lon owns a fortune and convinces her partners that she could seduce Lon, get married with him and later kill him to become the heir of his fortune.

When the youngest freak is murdered by the gang, the side-show performers seek revenge and join forces to hunt each criminal. Then they capture Lucy and transform her into the next attraction of the show, the Worm Woman. The violent and graphic "Freakshow" uses the same storyline of Tod Browning's "Freaks" and is a good remake of the classic, with a modification of the plot and characters. The make-up is excellent and the production is also very careful with the music score. This movie is absolutely underrated in IMDb, maybe because the voters are influenced by the negative propaganda that was written about this film or maybe by the inhuman and extremely graphic conclusion.

Anyway, I believe that real fans of harsh slashers will like this horror movie. My vote is seven. I hate to admit I watched this movie I was watching it for a friend. It is all about what you are into. A group of "outsiders" are hired by a circus, which is run by all deformed individuals and are called family. Lon Christopher Adamson is in charge, a man who has open sores oozing with pus.

The outsiders come up with a plan to rob the circus by stealing the gate receipts. When it is discovered Lon has a ton of money including "castles" they opt for plan "B" where Lucy Rebekah Kochan the gang's girl comes onto Lon to the point he wants to marry her. The rest of the family is skeptic of Lucy, as well they should be.

Without giving away any plot spoilers, I will dare to say there are bloody and graphic scenes. Outside of the midget, the deformities appear to be special effects. For example, the guy with no arms, clearly had arms under his shirt.

I think if they had a metal soundtrack, this could have been an excellent grindhouse. As it was, it was just pretty disgusting. If you can make it through 6 "Saw" films and a couple of "Human Centipedes" this one should be a snap.

F-bomb, sex, and nudity Rebekah Kochan, Amanda Ward. What could go wrong? The acting sucks as well. Freakshow is a terrible film to be sure, it's one of those films which promises much but delivers nothing.

It's throughly boring to sit through as well, one to avoid. After arriving at a carnival and finding them to be potential targets of their con game, a group of friends learn the group of freaks has deadly intentions whenever they're double-crossed and try to get out before they all fall victim. This one wasn't really all that memorable, as there's a few problems here. A lot of the main flaws are because it's a cheapo-feeling remake of the original, complete with the same situations, twist and overall feel that it featured, though the results vary slightly in their outcome here.

Simply adding a more modern-feeling approach to how they arrive at the circus and their interactions with the group are pretty much the only minor additions to the storyline here to switch this up, but beyond that there's way too much of this feeling like the original to really stand-out all that much. As well, the fact that this familiar set-up takes as long as it does manages to hold off the film's antics to the point that it waits until the end to do anything new by running through the storyline aspects here which instead results in plenty of time simply running around with the freaks before that finale, though that in itself is really just a play on the original outcome.

It's really hard to stay interested in what goes on since it's not really doing anything new or really doing anything that makes it interesting when it's going about itself as unless you're put off on the performers just their being odd-looking which gets old really fast, and really sets up the films' best parts. The ending is really where it gets all that back with some good kills, plenty of chilling stalking around the carnival setting which is really utilized to perfection at really getting some creepy moments in here and a fairly good use of gore in the graphic kills throughout here.

Along with the make-up done here that's combined nicely with the real-live freaks for more good stuff, what helps here is that the initial cause of the retribution here is so justified it pumps up the action more by really taking it all out into a great series of scenes that sell this nicely for the film.

Added with the great nudity on display, it's enough to make it watchable but just feels a little too late though. Okay, Great music for soundtrack,Music box or player piano or something else magnificent. The film just looks great and draws you in. The sets, Make-up and acting are a step above Theasylum usual fodder.

The bad guys become victims and societies victim's become the ones in control. Many of the fans may not know Director Fred Olen Ray is a huge fan of sideshows, This is one effort even he will appreciate. Welcome back,Theasylum! Totally plagerized version of Tod Browning's Freaks, albeit with significant ending gore.

It's not worth the wait. The film is poorly made and even more poorly acted. And it's virtually a complete ripoff of the original. The original wasn't even that great a flick -- it was just shocking for its time The remake is a borefest. Funniest part? Rebekah Kochan's bio on IMDb. Her "acting" career appears to be roles in gay themed movies, whose titles sound like hardcore porn!

Eating Out? Including Sloppy Seconds! Oy vey. Be proud. Well once again a DVD box at the rental store drew me into a wasted night. Who could resist a movie that claims to have been banned in 37 countries? So ,even though by now I should know better,I rent this thing and take it home. So we have a traveling circus and one of the attractions is the freaks or strange people as I think the sign on the tent said. Also traveling with the circus is the support group of guards and mechanics etc.

Anyway a few of these support guys and a girl decide to rob the circus during it's travels. The group decides that the girl should cozy up to the owner and trick him into marrying her where the group of plotters will have access to his fortune. Apparently the owner of this fleabag circus has big money somewhere although looking at him you'd never figure.

The owner is a repulsive mess, bad teeth, greasy hair and big yellow boils all over his body. The boil covered owner of the circus feels more at home with the freaks of the show than he does with normal people. He considers them his family. His family protects him as one of their own when they feel he is in trouble. Therein lies the main plot I guess you'd say. This movie really sucked bad. It was just too much for me to believe that the beautiful young women would have sex with the oozing nasty owner for all the money in the world.

She was so hot she could have found a much cleaner and less repulsive sugar daddy. The sets were lousy shots of tents and the Ferris wheel was shown over and over. There never seemed to be any people at the circus and all the workers just sat around slurping beer from bottles that somehow came with no labels on them. And the sound track was the most irritating soundtrack of any movie I've ever seen On and on these miserable songs went until I was nearly mad. And the acting was bad.

Terribly bad. And I'm not even sure this movie had a script as many of the actors seemed to fumble for their words. Or maybe the budget was so tight that re shots weren't allowed? The freaks themselves weren't really all that freaky except for the one that looked like a miniature version of the Toxic Avenger. Special effects were minimal, little bit of gore near the end but for the most part this movie was just people doing mostly talking. A couple of women showed their breasts but they were small and uninspiring.

I think I gave it a 3 mostly because of the breasts because really this movie was probably a 1 or 2 at best. It's very apparent that this movie was nothing more than a sad weak blatant rip-off of Tod Browning's "Freaks".

This mess is totally forgettable and I probably wouldn't have even finished watching it had it not been a cold rainy day with nothing else going on for me to do. The only way this crapola was banned in 37 countries was for being so bad. Skip this crud fest and watch Browning's original. Caz 4 April I've always been a big fan of the film Freaks and think it was very ahead of its time although in its day it was thought disturbing.

Freakshow stays near to the originals plot but as a story it loses its moral,in the original you care for the unfortunates of the title and they are the heroes of the film.

In Freakshow there is very little character development and you really couldn't care less about them,as they are neither likable or admirable and towards the last 10 minutes of the film they turn out to be bigger sadists than those who portrayed the villains,so i really couldn't see the moral of the story,it all seemed more like a film of revenge and sadism.

It was also silly really as no one would survive all that blood loss. Very pointless. My summery title might seem negative, but it's really quite positive.

I read all reviews to see if someone might mention it, but no one did. The 's movie called "Snuff". I'll get back to that later. Freakshow is a supposed remake of Tod Brownings cult classic "Freaks" I can't recall seeing that movie, but it's plot seems familiar. Freakshow borrows from that storyline, but of course in a much more gruesome and vindictive way.

There are no good and bad people in this movie and here is why. While the group of criminals working as hired help at the circus were clearly conniving individuals with horrid intentions; they never actually killed anyone up until they felt threatened by the presence of a young mongoloid. The Freaks on the other hand; really got pleasure out of murder. Now while the last 10 minutes do merit the actions taken against Rebeka Cochan; it still baffles me as to why the Freaks ; who were supposed to be the "good" ones had to do it?

I often compare movies to other ones in certain parts. This one has a bit of Ruggero Deodato's "Cannibal.. You have the group of explorers who find the young natives and torture and humiliate them for kicks.

Here two of the hired hand find the young mongoloid girl in the tent while they are looting it and decide to shut her up by killing her and leaving her on the ferris wheel for the others to find. First off; this is really stupid.

I mean who else are the Freaks gonna think did it? The same kind of revengeful action is taken on the criminals as was in Deodato's film. The Freaks hunt down each criminal and murder them in Circus fashion. Sledghammer to the head, knife thrown at the gut. Lee;played by Mark Preston Miller even has one more fling with the cannibal girl before she rips at his throat.

The one who gets it the worst is poor Rebekah. Though, she was the one who plotted the whole thing and pardon the expression "used" Lon for her own get rich scheme; she still didn't kill anyone. So far the movie has been very enjoyable. There is vintage music in the soundtrack, giving it a real old circus feeling.

There is no emotional connection between the viewer and what is happening on screen. The acting throughout Freakshow is bad, as is the editing and the attempt at setting the scene of a circus sideshow. Freakshow is not a movie I recommend, not because it is controversial, but because it is watered down and bland. I downloaded it and watched it a few times. The ending is most unbelievable. Watch options.

Storyline Edit. She convinces the gang to let her seduce and marry the aging circus owner, Lon, in order to secure the entire circus fortune after he "suffers an accident".

The freaks are on to their scheme, however, and when the youngest of them is caught by the ruthless gang, they show no mercy to ensure her silence. When the circus folk find the child's remains, they swear vengeance, and no one is safe from their fury--least of all, the wily Lucy. Did you know Edit. Trivia Real sideshow folks participated in this movie, in front and behind the cameras. First she has a cloth over the bottom of the jar to resemble a blanket probably, next shot the cloth is under the jar, the next it's on top of the bottom of the jar, then it's underneath again.

Quotes Hank : There goes uncle creepy. Crazy credits "No freaks were hurt during the production of this screenplay. Alternate versions The original version had an opening prologue and epilogue involving three young boys on Halloween trick or treating and having them meet an old man who tells the entire tale to them about the so-called "worm woman".
